Community Cupboard

How It Works

Community Cupboard provides food items, grocery store gift cards, and Ullman Commons guest meals to any current Cal Lutheran student who may need these resources.

The cupboard is supported by staff, faculty, and community members. We ask nothing of students in return, only that you take what you need and leave the rest for others.

Location: Samuelson Chapel, Lounge
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30AM - 5PM
Access: Please call Campus Safety for assistance

Come as you are.

Take what you need.

Swipe Out Hunger Program

Sodexo, Swipe Out Hunger, and Cal Lutheran have partnered to fight food insecurity by creating a Meal Swipe Bank for food insecure students.

How can students access meals offered through the program?

Students may request meal swipes by submitting a Meal Request form. Upon submitting the form, meal swipes are distributed to student ID cards, and meals can be redeemed by swiping in at Ullman Commons as "Guest Meals."

When do meal swipes become available?

Meals are added the first day of the instructional week, usually Monday, to student ID cards. Once meals have been added, students receive a confirmation email.

* Students with a meal plan are not eligible for the Swipe Out program. Please email campusministry@CalLutheran.edu to find more information on other food programs.

Swipe Out Hunger

Calling all staff, faculty, and community members:

We need your support!

Not able to donate items? Here are 3 additional ways you can help:
  1. Sponsor a financial gift of $10 Trader Joe's gift cards: On average each week, the Community Cupboard distributes 15-20 gift cards valued at $10 to subsidize the rising cost of food for those who need extra assistance, which totals over $600 per month in gift card funding. Consider sponsoring one or more $10 gift cards by submitting a Giving form — simply enter your total and indicate Trader Joe's gift card program in the "Leave a comment" section.
  2. Host a food drive on campus or within the community: Campus Ministry would love to assist you in setting up a food drive — please email campusministry@CalLutheran.edu to learn more!
  3. Share ideas for community partnerships: Food banks, local farms, and other suggestions are always appreciated by the Campus Ministry team.

Our gratitude to you

Whether it's through item donations, monetary sponsorship, or community support, every bit helps and is very much appreciated by students.
